Chains

1/2in x 1/8in chains are used on many track bikes, singlespeed bikes bikes with hub gears and BMX. They can be used perfectly with 3/32in single sprockets too.

1/2in x 3/32in chains are used mostly on bikes with derailleur gears talthough a few more modern bikes with hub gears or which are singlespeed use 3/32in chains sometimes. On derailleur geared bikes with more than 9 rear sprockets dedicated chains are essential. 5 and 6spd cassettes and freewheels normally use a slightly wider chain than 7 or 8spd cassettes and freewheels.
